The Age Factor Fertility declines significantly in women in their mid 30s, and worsens in their late 30s. Some women even experience decreased fertility in their late 20s and early 30s. Fertility declines with age because fewer eggs remain in the ovaries, and the quality of the remaining eggs is not as good. Pregnancy is exceedingly rare after age 45 and miscarriage rates are very high.
