Another type of stroke often occurs one to two weeks after the hemorrhage itself. This type of stroke happens because the blood from the hemorrhage irritates the blood vessels of the brain. This causes them to narrow or go into vasospasm'. When that happens, blood flow decreases in the affected artery and the brain supplied from that artery cannot get enough oxygen and nutrients and may die off, causing a stroke.
