If the appendix ruptures and the pus spills into the abdominal cavity, the patient may suddenly feel better. However, soon after, the entire abdomen may become enlarged with gas and fluid and will likely feel tight and tender. If this happens, the pain may be less severe than before but it may be located in a larger area. This is a medical emergency and the patient should go to an emergency room immediately.
