Polymyalgia rheumatica, also known as PMR, causes muscle pain and stiffness in your neck, shoulders and hips. It is most common in women. PMR almost always happens in people over 50. PMR sometimes happens along with giant cell arteritis, or GCA. GCA is a condition that causes swelling of the arteries in the head.
