There are two types of peritoneal dialysis: continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and continuous cycling peritoneal dialysis (CCPD). No machine is needed for CAPD. CCPD uses a machine to cleanse the blood at night while you sleep. These types may be used in combination. You can also switch from one to the other.
