Menstruation is monthly discharge of blood and other tissues by a woman's body. It is also known as the period. Each month, the woman's body prepares for pregnancy. If pregnancy does not happen, the uterus sheds its inner lining. The menstrual blood is the blood and tissue from inside the uterus, or womb.
