In the abdominal hysterectomy, one of two types of incisions is used. The incision can either be vertical in the midline, going up and down, or it can be transverse, known as a bikini' incision. Both incisions usually heal well with very little scarring. The surgeon will discuss with you which incision he or she is planning on using.
